The Only Ones were one of the best bands of the Punk Rock/New Wave era. They were a little old for punk maybe (the drummer had been in Spooky Tooth...) but they weren't totally prefab like say, The
Vibrators. Peter Perrett had a way of writing about being a junkie that
always had a bit of good-natured humor about it. Even "Another Girl,
Another Planet", their most famous song, to me is obviously a love song
to junk, with lyrics such as "You get under my skin, I don't find it
irritating, You always play to win, But I don't need rehabilitating, I
think I'm on another world with you, I'm on another planet with you".There's a Peter Perrett site here. Some very cool early photos here. And info on a Perrett Bio here. "As My Wife Says" is a rare b-side and "Lovers Of Today" is from a BBC Session.

Nice to see the Only Ones get some props--You don't hear bout them too often. My introduction to them came via the Replacements cover of Another Girl. I'm sure many others have the same story.

Hmm, Only Ones, Cheap Trick, Pretty Things...you seem to be tapped directly into my musical zeitgeist.

"Another Girl, Another Planet" is one of the ten great pop tracks of all time! And I first heard it when the film clip (along with "Time for Action" by Secret Affair and another obviously mod revival one which I couldn't remember well enough to identify later) wa shown betwixt showings of Dance Craze and The Kids Are United (Sham 69 of course, The Jam, Penetration, Ultravox, The Pirates) ...
