Alot of people, including me & Johnny Rotten, think that The Pretty Things blow the Rolling Stones away. Here are two versions of their Psychedelic Rock classic "Defecting Grey". The 1st version is an acetate of the original mix that was rejected for being too fucked up. The 2nd is from a BBC Session.

You're definitely right. The Pretty Things are much more interesting then the Stones. Parachute is their greatest album and the BBC Sessions (released here in Germany on Repertoire)contain some of their early r6b numbers in better versions than on studio records!
I like your blog - very good musical taste!

The Pretty Things are in my view, the greatest most under-rated band of all from the 60s. It is criminal that the Stones are touring the stadiums of the world since even today, these guys blow the Stones away everytime.
I just wanted to say that the 7" version of "Defecting Grey" is my personal fave single of all time. I heard it in 1987 and it changed my life. It was and remains a majotr influence on me as to what a great record is all about.
May, Taylor, Stax, Pendleton, Prince, Andrews, Skipper, Povey, Waller, Twink, Unitt, Tolson, Green, Edwards, Brooks, St John and Holland stand up and be saluted!
