Mr. Machine (TV Commercial) Repost
"Marvin Glass was a workaholic toy inventor. So much so, that he often did not spend enough time with his wife. During an argument over Marvin's work habits, Mrs. Glass shouted "You are always working, inventing! You are Mr. Machine!". And so a great toy name and toy was invented by Marvin Glass.
By winding Mr. Machine's large metal key on his back, he would roll forward, legs and arms moving, bell ringing, and opening his mouth and "squawking". You could rotate the little wheel behind the toy to make it run in a circle or curve instead of a straight line."

Nice! I remember a story by Alan King called The Big Birthday Party Rumble that talked about Mr. Machine. But I never knew that it was a REAL thing! Thanks! I appreciate it!

I got a Mr. Machine for Christmas when I was 5-6 years old. I enventually took it apart and was yoo young to reasemple it. My Mom got sick of looking at the peices and tossed it out. I was traumatized ever since.
I had the 1970s version Mr. Machine but it's a disappointment. It's smaller and doesn't come apart.
I eventually won couple of partial original Mr. Machines on eBay so I have enough parts to make one and have spares. I have two original boxes and the instruction sheets.
I also got a Mr. Machine train on eBay.
Now that I've handled the trauma.... *yawn* What was all that about? |-{)
I also discovered Ernie Kovacs even though he was a little bit before my time. He was a genius way ahead of his time. I've wanted to write to Edie Adams to see if she would release a complete DVD set of his shows and TV appearances.
