Marijuana may spur new brain cells
By Steve Mitchell Oct 14, 2005
WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- Scientists said Thursday that marijuana appears to promote the development of new brain cells in rats and have anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects, a finding that could have an impact on the national debate over medical uses of the drug.
Other illegal and legal drugs, including opiates, alcohol, nicotine and cocaine, have been shown to suppress the formation of new brain cells when used chronically, but marijuana`s effect on that process was uncertain.
Now, a team led by Xia Zhang of the department of psychiatry at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon may have found evidence the drug spurs new brain cells to form in a region of the brain called the hippocampus, and this in turn reduces anxiety and depression.

Spike. I wouldn`t recommend marijuana ( or any other drug- illegal or not!) as a way of relieving depression and anxiety. I`ve been there and I can tell you these things are best worked out sober. I have no such problem with masturbation however- it`s a proven mood enhancer!
I began blogging because of your site, so I have a question for you. Why do you (and many other americans) put so much politics on your site? I find it a little alienating. I really don`t think one`s politics is relevant to enjoying good movies, fine books and great rock`n`roll!

Well... it's been working for me for the last 30 years or so...

That's cool,
"Why do you (and many other americans) put so much politics on your site?"
Dunno about the other american bloggers, but, for me it's just 'cause that's what I'm interested in at the moment I post it. And what I want people to know about. Never thought I would be doing political stuff on the blog but it's been working out that way...

I agree it's not relevant to "good movies, fine books and great rock`n`roll", But I never said that was all the site was about.
I found that a couple of sites that were linking to me (Dawn Eden and that Joe Meek/Senses Working Overtime site come to mind) had what I found to be some crazy right-wing opinions and/or links and it spurred me to put some of my favorite political sites links on the site. I figure most people who come here share my politics, and for those that don't, the political posts are a kind of tax I'm imposing on the right wing if they wanna enjoy my content. It's easy enough to just not read that stuff if you don't wanna. Sorry if it's alienating you, but I've been living in a republican nightmare here for the last 5 years and I'm enjoying chronicling the end of it.
That said, I do kind of hate looking at my blog and seeing too much political stuff so I'll try and do like, one a day with a lot of links in it, rather than a whole bunch of them.
