It seems he was playing off how the copy made the story sound more so than personally commenting. I lived in Detroit for years and always got a kick out of Bills delivery. I'd have to say his career highlight was playing himself in RoboCop.

I knew Bill when I lived in Bloomfield Hills. We hung together at the local clubs sometimes. He is a very taented man and is prone to "shoot from the hip"at times.I ran into him again when I lived in Malibu Ca.He was going through a bad time in California.I was with WXYZ radio also,But that was b-4 Bill.
