Some bigot from Detroit.Bill Bonds.movBill Bonds.mov.m4v
Bill Bonds was the legendary alcoholic Detroit News anchor who, newscasting under the influence challenged Mayor Coleman Young to a fist fight on camera.
His career high point may have been a self-portrayal in Planet of the Apes:

He is still with us, hocking Lasik eye surgery and sporting a full 'hair hat.'

I grew up watching this newscast... This guy was hysterical in an awful kind of a way.

I love this tape. Curious where you found yours -- I'm dying to find more of Bill's outbursts. Link is to a transcript of this.

Tt's time somebody stopped this politically correct charade, and say what he really felt. Hope the people in Detroit don't see this - he'll end up like Theo van Gogh.

It seems he was playing off how the copy made the story sound more so than personally commenting. I lived in Detroit for years and always got a kick out of Bills delivery. I'd have to say his career highlight was playing himself in RoboCop.

I knew Bill when I lived in Bloomfield Hills. We hung together at the local clubs sometimes. He is a very taented man and is prone to "shoot from the hip"at times.I ran into him again when I lived in Malibu Ca.He was going through a bad time in California.I was with WXYZ radio also,But that was b-4 Bill.
