So anyway, I love watching poker on TV. I'm kind of obsessed with it, almost. But I gotta say I'm hating this new Professional Poker Tour on the Travel Channel. Mark Seif is a nice enough guy and a good poker player, but this guy Matt Corboy (an actor who's appeared on The Shield) annoys the hell out of me. He just keeps making all these corny analogies to to other sports. Like "he's like a surfer dropping in on a wave saying it's my wave get off" and "he 's like a racehorse coming around the far turn". I hate that shit. It's poker. You're not making it any more exciting for me by comparing it to all the other sports that I'm not interested in. I dunno if he's coming up with this stuff himself or if it's being written for him, but either way it's annoying. The whole format of the show seems to be an attempt to make Poker more appealing to sports fans, lotsa statistics get thrown around, the tournaments are divided into Quarters, etc.
This show especially sucks compared to The Travel Channel's other poker show, The World Poker Tour, hosted by the awesome team of Vince Van Patten (one of the stars of Rock & Roll High School) and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Mike Sexton. Those guys have real personalities and a great camaraderie. And they never make stupid sports analogies. More Poker on Bedazzled!
