From the Wikipedia: "The Saints are an Australian rock band, formed in Brisbane in 1974. They are considered to be one of the first and most influential punk groups. By 1975, contemporaneously with the Ramones
but on the other side of the world, The Saints were employing the fast
tempos, slurred vocals and buzzsaw guitar that characterised early punk
rock. With the release of their first single "(I'm) Stranded" in late 1976, they beat on to vinyl a host of more widely-known punk acts like the Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks, and The Clash. Bob Geldof
has been quoted as saying, "Rock music in the Seventies was changed by
three bands - the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and The Saints". Link.

you're right on the money. The Saints first two albums are must haves. Stone cold classics.

First off, that post completely ignores The Stooges and their impact on what became "punk rock," as if these disenfranchised Aussies actually came up with the idea to play music like that all on their own. I mean...if you break it down, it sounds like pretty generic rock, sped up, with the lyrics delivered by a snotty Iggy Pop (or even a watered-down Johnny Rotten). At least that first Ramones record had that raw, intense energy. These guys
I mean...I think we can all agree, at this point in history, that punk rock did not start with The Ramones and The Sex Pistols. I'm not saying it started with The Stooges, exclusively, but they are the cornerstone that all that shit was based on.
Don't get me wrong, though...I'm sure The Saints were incredibly influential amongst the group of 10 unemployed Australians that actually saw them live.

You're totally wrong about this. Because in Brisbane (and the state of Queensland) in the 1970's we had the kind of social conditions that led to the punk movement in the UK - it was a police state, and music was underground and anarchic and gigs were by word of mouth in abandoned warehouses where you were often as not raided and bashed by the cops ...
The point is the punk movement emerged from the social conditions - as to musical precedents to punk you can hear them in a lot of places - even the Sex Pistols in their reformed tour a few years ago acknowledged their influences, for example opening their gigs with Hawkiwnd's 'Silver Machine ...'

The original Saints (Bailey/Kuepper/Hay) are reforming for a one-off Australian gig:
