Chrysler's In-Car Phonograph
Back when I was working at Cutler's Records in New Haven, CT in the late (or was it mid?) 1970's my manager Barry told me about these things and how they used to sell 'em like hot cakes back in the 50's. He wasn't the kind of guy to make shit up but I still found it kinda hard to believe that you could have a record player in your car. For some odd reason I was just thinking about it and managed to google up this article.
Pretty freakin' cool.....

What was that little brown dog's name?

I remember working on the under-dash version of these record players back in the mid '60s 1966 or so. Also the reverbs( used a transducer at each end of three springs to produce an echo effect) that gave a "concert hall" effect.
never saw the in dash shown here

I used to have a crush on one of my babysitters back in Detroit in about 1967-68. Her boyfriend (curse him!) had a muscle car with one of these record players mounted under the dashboard. It's the only one I've ever seen or even heard of.

You can get an LP player in the new Fiat 500 too.

I believe this was invented by Peter Cathcart. He also invented the first space cameras, the LP, and an early version of color television.

I recall first hearing about these things in a Grand Royal magazine, around '97.

The hunky teenaged guy at the end of the street where I lived as a kid had a huge red convertible with one of these record players. Just one of his many attractions. We had a fan club for him and he would graciously receive our gifts, speeches and presentations, and then let us sit in the car with him and play records. I still love you, Bobby Jones!
