You're absolutely right. There are some songs from the pre-Beatles era of pop music - The Everly Brothers "Walk Right back" and ANYTHING by the Fleetwoods - that just grab you by the guts the first time you hear them. This is one of them...

It was killing me to remember where I knew this song from, then it came back to me: the duet by Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters in The Jerk (complete with cornet solo.)
