I just picked up this new 2-CD Tim Hardin Collection Hang on to a Dream. I had a bunch of his LP's back when I still had a turntable set-up, but none of them had this song on them. It's haunting me, can't get it out of my head. And, like all his good songs, it's incredibly sad. At least it makes me kinda sad. But I like that in a song.

My wife and I spent an afternoon with Tim and his little band, shortly before he died. We were at a tiny village festival in southern Vermont and he had a gig at a local college. Mostly, we just sat on a hillside and watched the leaves slowly falling on a gorgeous Autumn day, as the whole band was so smacked out as to be nearly unable to move. There wasn't much talking (needless to say) but that afternoon is one of my most treasured memories ...as I sat there under the bluest sky I've ever seen, absorbing the wistfulness coming off of the king of melancholy himself. Wherever you are Tim, I hope you've found what you were looking for.
