UPDATE: Alice responds in the comments and blames it on "certain
users on Flickr that feel that they must act like cops for Flickr. I
was once flagged NIPSA'd but the staff classified me "safe" again once
I flagged all my scans as "art-illus.". This was about 2 weeks ago but
not that many find my scans through search as they once did because
they are flagged as such. I have noticed that through stats."
"As to why I have them set as "friends" only, I'm just letting the
cloudy weather clear up and I also have to make sure I have tagged
everything properly. I did upload those scans to share since these
things tend to disappear for some time when they exchange hands.
They'll be made public again, soon."
Thanks Alice!
I just recently, in the last few weeks, started following the Flickr Photo stream of a user named "AliceJapan" and linking to alot of the images from my tumblr blogs Love Me! and You Fill Me With Inertia (there's still a bunch up there).
"Alice" had uploaded staggering amounts of cool ephemera including thousands of great images from vintage movie press materials, etc.
I was just now looking at my RSS feeds and noticed that all of "her" photos were "unavailable" to me. She made almost all of the photos "private".
I've seen this happen a bunch of times before. Why do people decide to stop sharing their images as soon as people notice them? I can understand if they are personal photos of your family or friends or yourself, but this is just ephemera...
Anyway, I'm gonna miss you "AliceJapan". Please consider letting the world back into your awesome collection.

You gotta wonder that if they want to be so private with this stuff why are they posting it online to begin with? The ultimate way to keep stuff private is to keep it in a shoebox under your bed. But in this case, it may be that the person really wants to share, but perhaps they are afraid of the copyright cops.

Not exactly copyright cops but certain users on Flickr that feel that they must act like cops for Flickr. I was once flagged NIPSA'd but the staff classified me "safe" again once I flagged all my scans as "art-illus.".
