For Deram 123, David Bowie channeled his best Anthony Newley sound and released "Laughing Gnome". It was pretty well panned in the press at the time and even Ziggy himself couldn't help cracking up at the absurdity of it all. While it didn't chart on release, it was re-released in 1973 when Bowie was all over the Top 30, and did manage to make a little noise. The gnome's voice is none other than the producer, Gus Dudgeon. "You look like a Rolling Gnome" "It's the gnome service, of course!" Oh dear me!

Always loved this song, always been a nut for psych chipmunk records like Pink Floyd's "Scream Thy Last Scream" (still unreleased!).
