Robin Gibb floats my boat. He was always my favorite Gibb brother. Regardless, I couldn't make it through Bedazzled's Unreleased Robin Gibb LP. I guess what I feel for Robin is more physical than aural. I've been practicing the twist. I want to dance l... [Read More]

Wow, what a pleasant surprise. There's lots of rare Bee Gees material around, but it's quite hard to come by. A friend of mine will love this. What's the story behind this album? Any links?

My god, I thought it was a horrible album--and I was really hoping it would be great. I mean, the brothers Gibb ALWAYS deliver top quality material. Robin's album was buried under tons and tons of over-production! Hundreds of trumpets, flutes, violins! It sounds as if the Queen's royal orchestra were his pop contemporaries instead of The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
And Robin's voice never sounded sillier. He sounded like a chipmunk being strangled to death in each song. Who would have purchased this album to hear this cartoonish high-pitch warbling coming out of their hifi system?? His voice on this album is neither romantic nor pretty, it's just cartoonish. But the big problem is that the producer just went psycho in the recording studio. Right when a song starts out as a nice, pleasant ballad with just a piano and an acoustic guitar (such as "One Million Years") suddenly an army of brass and strings comes barrelling in like a bulldozer.
As usual I'm very, very grateful Bedazzled was kind enough to take the time put this on the web for us to hear.
Can we get any more material by that twisting italian kid in the scopitone name Gianetto? He's the ultimate!
Thanks again.

I'm a big Robin Gibb fan..Love his unique voice....Have loved the Bee Gees music from day one....I had a boot cd of this album a few years ago...Didn't sound great then and still doesn't..Having said that.. I think if these tracks were mixed properly they would sound great...Maybe not Bee Gees great, but certainly Robin Gibb great who has recorded a number of wonderful solo songs over the years...I really enjoyed his first solo album Robin's Reign..
