The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones 1963-1969 - On Video! Ocean County Library, Toms River, New Jersey, May 6th, 7PM

It's the age-old question: "The Beatles or The Stones?". A lot of people like 'em both, but most everybody who's a fan of 1960s Pop-Rock music seems to have a preference for one or the other.

Music Video collector Spike Priggen (of the Scopitones.com & Bedazzled.tv blogs) will present a program of musical films by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones that compare and contrast their musical, song-writing and sartorial styles, year-by-year, trend-by-trend, from "mop-tops" to psychedelia.

The show will be a mix of live concert & television footage, mimed promotional clips, TV specials & promos, starting with some of their earliest known TV & newsreel appearances and taking them right up to the end of the 60s. Ocean County Library, Tom's River Branch, 101 Washington St. Toms River, NJ 08753 7pm on Monday May 6th 2013.

Spike Priggen (AKA "Cookie" of Bedazzled.tv and Scopitones.com) will be DeeJaying at Sidecar on 5th Avenue in Brooklyn every other Thursday starting January 10th. I'll be "spinning" everything from Freakbeat to Dub, up to and including Glam, Bubblegum, Pop-Psych, Sunshine Pop, Garage Rock, Girl Groups, British Invasion, Punk, New Wave, Northern Soul, Ska, Funk, Soundtracks & other great musics of the 60's, 70's, 80's and beyond. Rarely Seen Music Video 1962-1970 - Tuesday, October 25 - Ocean County Library - Toms River, NJ

I'm going to be screening some videos in Tom's River NJ next Tuesday.

"Music Video collector Spike Priggen (of the Bedazzled.tv and Scopitones.com blogs) will present a program of rarely seen music video clips from his collection.

First up is a program of "Scopitones", the almost forgotten pre-cursor to the modern music video, shot on 16mm film and shown on an early type of "Video Juke-Box". Scopitone machines were usually located in bars and lounges, allowing for a slightly more "risque" feel than one could see on TV or in the Movies at that time. Scopitones became a sensation in France in 1962 and quickly spread to the US, but by 1967, after a racketeering trial and fortunes lost by both Francis Ford Coppola and Debbie Reynolds, Scopitone was over.

The 2nd hour of the program will feature newly unearthed footage originally broadcast on French TV, including early live footage of bands such as The Kinks, The Who, The Yardbirds, Them, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Otis Redding, The Moody Blues, The Pretty Things, & The Spencer Davis Group as well as clips of Nancy Sinatra, The Shirelles, Dion, Screaming Lord Sutch, Dusty Springfield, Sonny & Cher, The Electric Prunes and much much more."
