Dennis Cooper has posted an amazing selection of YouTube Power Pop Videos (including this amazing "Tired Of Waking Up Tired" by The Diodes live at the Peppermint Lounge). So many songs I'd forgotten about, and so many I never imagined there was a video for.

From the Bun E's Basement Bootlegs Collection (I looked on the Cheap Trick site for them but I guess they're all sold out now). This is from the volume entitled "Beertown '75". Yes, I said '75. I always kinda figured that Cheap Trick were like a normal 70's rock band that heard Punk Rock and adapted (like the Only Ones), but I think this recording proves that Cheap Trick were exactly the same band before and after Punk Rock. This ended up on the 1st LP (if you've never heard the 1st LP you've never heard Cheap Trick-that's the one Nirvana ripped everything off of) as "The Ballad Of TV Violence".
UPDATE : Before someone quibbles with my Nirvana comment here's a quote "…We sound just like Cheap Trick only the guitars are louder"- Kurt Cobain, Rolling Stone magazine."

Wolfgangs' Vault just added a new streaming concert to the archives, Cheap Trick, New York City, 06/04/1979
"This short but energetic set from Cheap Trick was recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour while they were promoting the Budakon
album. At the time, the band was still performing essentially the same
set as they had been playing since 1977, and by now, it was tight as a
drum. They would emerge later the same year with one of their most
successful studio albums, Dream Police." Link.

How ahead of their time were these guys? I mean the Ramones and Patti Smith LP's didn't come out till '76. English Punk Rock didn't start till after the Ramones had toured there. These guys sounded like this at Bowling Alleys in Milwaukee and Madison 1n 1975! This is from the Bun E's Basement Bootleg Series

The Bun E Carlos Blend
Description of the
Bun E Carlos Blend of Coffee
Bun E's Coffee is a blend of coffees made from the finest gourmet coffees from Central & South America. Only coffee's which pass our strict standards (and those of Bun E Carlos) make it into the blend. This unique blend of coffee is a tasty brew that everyone finds appealing. (Hey Bun E does!!). Each is packaged in air tight bags with a label like the one pictured to the left.
Here's me and Bun E Carlos in the front seat of my (since deceased) 1977 Volare Station Wagon. We're on our way to Brooklyn's "Fireproof Recording" where Bun E played on 8 Spike Priggen tracks in one day (nice going Bun E!). 6 songs are on my new all-covers CD "Stars After Stars After Stars" and there'll be 2 more on my next all originals CD (working title "There's No Sound In Flutes").

Buy the 1st Cheap Trick LP. It's the one Nirvana based their whole sound on.
Update: We have a quibbler in the comments already. Here's the quote for you unbelievers, from your God "…We sound just like Cheap Trick, only the guitars are louder"- Kurt Cobain, Rolling Stone magazine." They also ripped off the Pixies if you hadn't noticed. And here's MP3.com's Nirvana similar artists page that lists Cheap Trick. Oh yeah, they're at the TOP of the list of Nirvana influences on AllMusic.com.
I've been looking for last year's Cheap Trick postcard with no luck, but just in the nick of time, this year's showed up in my box. Thanks Bun E! (I love Cheap Trick!)
