Happy Birthday Dudley Moore!

Happy Birthday to Dudley Moore. Brilliant comedian (along with partner Peter Cook) and the star and music composer of the great 60s film Bedazzled, from which we got our name (and logo). He passed away March 27, 2002. Would have been 78 today.

I play his Bedazzled theme music every week on my radio show The Bedazzled Radio Hour with Spike Priggen on WGXC 90.7 FM.

Happy Birthday Paul Jones! (born Paul Pond, 24 February 1942)

 

"Paul Jones was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire. As "P.P. Pond", he performed duets with Elmo Lewis (aka future founder member of the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones) at the Ealing Club, home of Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated, whose singers included Long John Baldry and Mick Jagger. He was asked by Keith Richards and Brian Jones to be the lead singer of a group they were forming, but he turned them down. Jones then went on to be the vocalist and harmonica player of the successful 1960s group Manfred Mann. He had several Top Ten hits with Manfred Mann before going solo in July 1966." Link. Jones also starred in the mind=blowingly seminal 60's rock film "Privilege".

UPDATE: From the comments: Jonathan King said: "They really did rip that tune off, didn't they? Pretty audacious. The narrator is the quasi-legendary Humble Harvey Miller, an L.A. deejay of yore who glommed onto the local youth market, such as it was, when he became a jock at KHJ-AM, the first 'boss radio' outlet, in the mid-'60s. (I myself attended the Humble Harve Hello Happening, a mega-event, at the Palladium in Hollywood one afternoon in 1966, I imagine it was.) He did time for murdering his wife in the early '70s ... must have been after the pot party shown here."
