L’Enfant Assassin Des Mouches

"Jean Claude Vannier is one of the most inventive string arrangers in pop music whose record legacy has been pitiful at best.  Until now.  Andy Votel and the good folks at Delay 68 and Finders Keepers records have released his debut album ‘L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches' on Delay 68 Records.

But why all the brou-ha-ha?  Why? Because if his name is credited on an album, it is bound to be a masterpiece of arrangements.   Even if his only contribution to the yeh-yeh pop had been Serge Gainsbourg ‘Histoire de Melody Nelson'.

The Gainsbourg/Vannier connection has always been marked with cool from the beginning.  Their first collaborative effort was Cannabis;  a film soundtrack starring the french psychedelic Lothario and Jane Birkin.  Vaguely  reminiscent of Roman Polanksi's 1970 sexual freedom effort, ‘Quoi' only with more blood, sex and death. The score, is a borderline, masterpiece, with gliding psychedelic string arrangements over a whispering Serge through to the french baroque of ‘‘Le Deuzieme homme and  the organ and Jane Birkin's butterfly coos ..."

French TV broadcasts the one and only number of the radically modern TV pop show Dents de lait, dents de loup, created by Pierre Koralnik and Jean-Pierre Spiero, for which Serge wrote the theme song. The show includes a duo of France Gall and Serge Gainsbourg singing "Les sucettes", but also the Walker Brothers, Marianne Faithfull, Sylvie Vartan, Claude François, Eddy Mitchell and Françoise Hardy.(Link To Serge Biography page)

The lovely Anna Karina (cover girl of my 1st LP in 1987) singing (and dancing) a duet with Serge. I have videos of him dueting with at least a half dozen different women and they always gaze at him like he was the most charming motherfucker that ever lived. I guess he probably was.
