For anybody in the Greater New Haven CT area, this should be a fun show tomorrow night (Friday, April 25th, starting at 8pm). I will be playing with (a version of) TV Neats (pictured) and (a version of) The Excerpts (Jon Brion's 1st band, although he is not expected to attend).
"Connecticut lies between New York City and Boston. In the 1970’s and 1980’s “punk” era, it was on the front line with the enormous changes taking place in music emanating from both those metropolises. In New Haven, Ron’s Place, Brother’s III, Oxford Ale House, were the hot spots. Statewide, other establishments like New London’s El & Gee, The Shandy Gaff in Devon, and Bridgeport’s Hotel St. George, were hosts to a diverse and exciting collection of musicians determined to be heard on their own terms.
In 1982 Gustav Records issued the compilation LP “It Happened But Nobody Noticed” containing 13 bands chronicling this fertile concentration of creativity. The album stood for over 25 years as a testament to the impressive talents of this Connecticut musical collective. Although this recording has become a treasured artifact, it could only tell part of the story. Now in 2008, another chapter is written with the release of “It Happened But Nobody Noticed/Temps Supplémentaire". 13 more great bands from the golden age of Southern Connecticut music join the original recordings on this two CD package.
In celebration of this event, Gustav Records is presenting a night of music at Cafe 9, (250 State St., New Haven, CT 06511, 203-789-8281, (www.cafenine.com) featuring performers representing many of the bands contributing to the project. We expect members of the Poodle Boys, No Music, Hot Bodies, Saucers, The Furors, Stratford Survivors, Subdueds, The Plan, Dada Banks, Valley Of Kings, The Excerpts, and others to be there to entertain you and once again flex the muscle of the New Haven Scene. The show is Friday, April 25th, starting at 8pm."
